Physician Advises: Skip the Grains But Not the Treats This Holiday Season Cardiologist, Best-Selling Author Shares  2 Grain-Free Recipes At a time when we most want to look and feel our best, we seem to do everything possible to ensure we don’t, says cardiologist Dr. William Davis. “The weather starts to change and we reach for the pumpkin-spice cookies, cider doughnuts and beer, which launches us into processed carbohydrates season,” says Dr. Davis, author of “Wheat Belly Total Health,” ( www.wheatbellyblog.com ), the latest in his bestselling “Wheat Belly” series. “They make us tired and sluggish when we especially need energy as we prepare for all the fun stuff and preparation that lead up to Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hannukah, and they cause us to gain weight, which we immediately pledge to shed come New Year’s.”   People have been taught that the refined, processed carbohydrates in foods like white rice, white bread and traditionally baked ...

Build a Better Butt...Now!

Image
Your butt, buttocks, gluteals, booty, etc... Your backside can be a major point of contention. Maybe you have a tiny waist and a big booty, or a big waist and a small booty, whatever you may be, your butt may not be your favorite asset. Check out this article ! I've never seen a womens' magazine put it like this before... Your gluteus maximus, medius and minimus make your gluteals. Yep, three main muscles, not just one big one. With a few targeted exercises, you can help shape your backside into more of a rounded globe, rather than a flat map. Here are some of my favorites! Bridges and One legged Bridges Hip extensions Squats Lunges (rear, side, split on bench) Incorporating booty specific exercises into your workout can make all the difference. As women, we need to spend a little more attention on the parts that really shape us; for me, that's Butt, Abs, Hips and arms. No, you can't "spot reduce", but by working your nutrition...

Oxygen Magazine; Yummy and Healthy Recipes

I love Oxygen magazine for their recipes! Most are high in protein, which is great, but they always have something "sweet" to add to your meal. Here's a recipe for one brownie:  http://www.oxygenmag.com/nutrition/sinfully-clean-chocolate-brownie/ Looks good! I haven't made it yet but will definitely try it out soon. Most brownie recipes are high in sugar and fat, but not this one!

Sugar Free Eating

Image
Sounds pretty boring...no sugar? Well, if you are like me, and like most people, you want sugar on a regular basis. And the more you want it, the more you eat it, and the more you eat it, the more you want it... Domino effect in action! Eliminating sugar from your diet is not as hard as it sounds; start slowly and build up. Morning coffee- one less teaspoon, that ketchup- it has sugar. That cereal, yes it does too...peanut butter? If it's not 100% peanuts, it just might have ICING sugar in it! I just found a great recipe for sugar free pudding (and I don't mean it's laced with aspartame or artificial sweeteners...) Check it out!  http://balancedbites.com/2013/01/easy-recipe-dairy-free-chocolate-mousse-pudding.html Using bananas or apple sauce can naturally sweeten foods, as well as increasing spices like cinnamon and nutmeg to change up the flavour of your food. What is your sweet tooth telling you to eat right now? Have a great and sugar-free day! ...

Paleo Pizza- Yum!

I was making pizza for the kids party today, and some had dietary restrictions- no wheat; yay! I was already planning on having something else, but now I had an excuse to try out a new Paleo Pizza recipe. I have stocked up on almond flour, coconut flour, flaxmeal and coconut milk now that I'm doing 90% paleo eating. I found this great recipe for paleo pizza here: http://cynthiaunderground.tumblr.com/post/16727829023/the-best-paleo-pizza-crust-is-here It was a hit! The kids that tried it ate it all up, and wanted more! That never happens. It's a sure fire repeat on the paleo pizza. Thanks for the recipe cynthia underground!
