Guest Blog post by Michael Manning. Five Ways to Stay Fit on Vacation The summer is less than two months away and you are probably planning a big trip to some exotic location. But your major concern is that you probably won't have access to a gym, let alone time to workout! No worries! There is no need to sacrifice your love of the gym while vacationing. Here are five ways to stay fit on your next vacation! Stay at a Hotel with a Gym In order to find a hotel with the proper workout equipment make sure to do some research before booking a hotel. On a recent trip to San Francisco I was able to book a fantastic hotel because I did some due diligence by checking out a travel reviews site. This site listed the top San Francisco hotels and I was able to scroll through and check what amenities were offered and see reviews from people who stayed there previously. The easiest way to stay fit during your trip is make sure the hotel you are staying at has a fitness center. Man...

Summer Coffee Drinks...What are your best bets?

Image
Aah, warmer weather. The sun is coming out here in Vancouver, and finally making us think about summer. With summer comes cold drinks; some of the iced coffee or other variety. So what are your best bets? Well, think of coffee as a low calorie drink; then add whole fat milk, cream and whipped cream sprinkled with chocolate shavings and syrup. Not so low calorie anymore. I went through the McDonald's drive through today because they have a summer special- iced coffee's are $1. Not too bad! I asked for mine "without sugar", and that did cause a stir. No sugar in my iced coffee? The standard iced coffee comes with some kind of syrup added, adding unnecessary calories and sugar to my drink. No, I'll just take the iced coffee, thanks! The small iced latte with caramel (with skimmed milk) will cost you 187 calories; that's more than you need for your afternoon snack. The medium has 265; probably a more reasonable size for someone ordering a cold dri...

Free 5-day fat loss course for you

Today   I have a gift for you, a sneak peek at something my friends at Precision Nutrition have been working on for some time now, something new and exceptionally cool . . . It's a 5-day video course: Precision Nutrition for Fat Loss. And the best part? It's TOTALLY FREE. This course is better than 90% of the seminars I've ever attended on the subjects of exercise and nutrition (and probably better than a few I've given myself, too). To check out the free course, just click one of the two links below. ---> Free Video Course on Fat Loss for Men --->  www.precisionnutrition.com/cmd.php?pageid=&u=m ---> Free Video Course on Fat Loss for Women --->  www.precisionnutrition.com/cmd.php?pageid=&u=w The definitive fat loss resource ------------------------------- You know, I see a LOT of nonsense being published about fat loss these days, both on the web and in the mainstream media. And and this course sets the record straight about what it REALLY takes. Yo...

Sugar Free Eating

Image
Sounds pretty boring...no sugar? Well, if you are like me, and like most people, you want sugar on a regular basis. And the more you want it, the more you eat it, and the more you eat it, the more you want it... Domino effect in action! Eliminating sugar from your diet is not as hard as it sounds; start slowly and build up. Morning coffee- one less teaspoon, that ketchup- it has sugar. That cereal, yes it does too...peanut butter? If it's not 100% peanuts, it just might have ICING sugar in it! I just found a great recipe for sugar free pudding (and I don't mean it's laced with aspartame or artificial sweeteners...) Check it out!  http://balancedbites.com/2013/01/easy-recipe-dairy-free-chocolate-mousse-pudding.html Using bananas or apple sauce can naturally sweeten foods, as well as increasing spices like cinnamon and nutmeg to change up the flavour of your food. What is your sweet tooth telling you to eat right now? Have a great and sugar-free day! ...

Post Workout Smoothie- Yum!

Image
After your workout: running, lifting weights, aerobics, or whatever it may be, you need to make sure you're prepared with a post workout "meal." This could be a smaller snack which you have to tide you over until your next real meal, a chocolate milk , a handful of nuts and some yogurt, or a smoothie. I love making smoothies because you can cram so much goodness into a glass; more than you might be able to if you were sitting down and eating it all separately. Here is a tried and true Perfect Fit post-workout smoothie: 1 cup spinach or kale (raw) 1/2 cup strawberries 1/2 banana  1 tbsp ground flax 1/2- 2/3 cup greek yogurt (plain) (about 10-17gm protein) 1 cup water Blend up until smooth and save for after your workout! Following your workout, it's important to eat/drink a proper snack within 45 minutes to replace lost fluids and energy. Your body is craving water, protein and carbs now, and it's a great time to enjoy quick energy; som...

Get Snacking...The Healthy Way

Image
I just found this great blog site with lots of easy/quick and healthy snack ideas!   Snacks are important during our day (not doritos or chocolate bars...) but healthy snacks like yogurt, veggies, fruit, and nuts.   Check it out: http://www.snack-girl.com/a/100-healthy-snack-ideas/   What are your favorite snack ideas? I am currently leaning towards parfait: Layer 1/4 cup plain greek yogurt with two tablespoons of oats, 1/4 cup raspberries, another layer of each. So yummy! Have a great night.
